I am a college counselor at Hunter College High School. Hunter is a challenging college preparatory 7th - 12th grade public school located on the upper east side of New York City. I've been at Hunter for five years and enjoy working with a diverse and immensely talented group of students.
This blog has two primary goals. The first is to provide a resource for families planning visits to colleges. I have a deep love of traveling and I am so thrilled to find a way to combine my personal and professional passions. An undergraduate education can cost over $200,000 and even if it doesn't cost that much, it is still a smart idea to see your purchase before you make a commitment. The catch comes when you are trying to actually fit these expensive visits in to your busy schedule! I would love for this blog to become a resource for planning and a forum for sharing great ideas for college visiting.
The second purpose is to discuss current topics in college admissions. The process of searching for and applying to colleges has become incredibly complex and competitive in recent years and I hope this blog can become a resource for students and families approaching the application process.
Although Hunter was celebrated by the Wall Street Journal as the top public school in the country for sending students to selective colleges, I believe that finding the right fit for students should far outweigh prestige when it comes time to make decisions about where to apply and attend. To me, finding the right fit means considering the academic environment, social environment, and location before you consider rank and prestige. Students who are in the right environment are sure to be happier and learn more.
